SNUGPOD – the perfect swaddle every time!

October 28, 2015 by lydiaritchie 2 Comments

Snugpod (3)

Sebastian was a little Houdini when he was a baby, he was the master at getting his hands free. Try as you might no matter how tight you swaddled him, he could figure a way out. Then wake up. He didn’t really want his hands free, he just didn’t want them where I swaddled them. He wanted the freedom to move, not be swaddled so tightly he felt like an over stuffed sausage.

So, a few weeks ago when I was contacted by the lovely Kim from Snugbags about reviewing a Snugpod Zip Up Swaddle  I knew I was on to a good thing. Not just a good thing but a great thing. Even though I know ‘Lil Gooseberry’ isn’t here yet, this is one item which was high on my hospital packing lists (a swaddle of some description). Once I read about the Snugpod, well I was sold!

As a Mum, I love that the Snugpod..

  • Creates a cozy womb-like feeling and helps prevent the startle reflex that can wake baby (meaning more sleep for Mummy)
  • Is simple and easy to use, just zip baby into the Snugpod (perfect for those 2am changes and feeds)
  • Allows your baby to move their arms and legs around like they are use to (no more feeling like an over stuffed sausage – Sorry Sebastian!)
  • Has a two way zip (no having to completely undress baby just to get to their nappy especially at 2am – what a rude awakening!)
  • Is breathable and wicks away moisture, which ensures your little one stays dry all night
  • Has thermo regulating properties, which ensures your little one stays warm all night, even at 2am when the temperature drops
  • Made in New Zealand, I love supporting local!

Snugpod (1)Made from a mixture of 50 / 50 Merino Wool and Cotton the Snugpod is incredibly soft. And whilst “snug” on your little one has plenty of stretch for growth and movement. I especially love that ‘Lil Gooseberry’ can have his / her hands up by their face (which Sebastian loved to do) without waking themselves up. That they will be able to sleep how they want / are used too, while still feeling safe and secure in the new big wide world they are now a part of. I went for the charcoal as we don’t know what we are having but they have a range of gorgeous colours available from Cranberry to Sage to Lemon Sorbet. I can not wait to order more once baby arrives and I get to pick colours (who knows I may even need one of each 🙂 )

Did you know… Snugbags are perfect not only for newborns, they also have a range of Sleeping Bags and Pyjamas. So our your little ones no matter how old can be warm, dry and super snuggly all year round.

Snugpod (4)

Since this post was originally written Isabelle (lil gooseberry) has joined our family..

So, what do I think of the Snugpod now I have been able to officially give it a go ?? I still think it is great and so does little Isabelle. I find she feels safe and secure in it, in fact I really notice a difference the naptimes when she needs to be wrapped because both her Snugpods are in the wash (I really should get a third 😉 ); she is harder to settle and invariably wakes up sooner not having had enough nor as good a sleep as she does when snuggled in her Snugpod. I like that I know what I am dressing wrapping my baby in. At first I was skeptical of the merino – wouldn’t Isabelle be too hot in it especially as it’s Summer here??? However, as you can read below merino is the safest fibre to dress your little one in as it has the ability to regulate your child’s body temperature.

“Babies are not as adaptable as adults to temperature change. Because infants and children have a higher surface area to mass ratio than adults, they can lose heat rapidly, as much as four times more quickly than adults. This means that babies under 12 months have difficulty regulating their own temperature, even in a warm environment. New Zealand Merino is one of Nature’s most amazing fibres. It breathes and controls moisture which means it has the unique ability to maintain the ideal temperature between body and bedding. Using merino while sleeping will keep your little one cool when it is hot and warm when it is cold. When babies are cold-stressed, they use energy and oxygen to generate warmth. Studies have found that by using NZ merino wool and thus keeping babies at optimal temperatures, neither too hot or too cold, they can conserve energy and build up reserves. When temperature is regulated and maintained a baby will become more relaxed, gain weight and sleep longer. A well rested baby is a happy baby, which also makes for well rested and happy parents!”

Isabelle is thriving, the little rolls on her thighs are testament to that. A happy, thriving baby means a happy, thriving Mummy in my books. That’s a WIN / WIN situation if you ask me (and even if you don’t)!

Now, if you would like to get your hands on one of these fabulous Snugpods or any other Snugbag products (sleeping bags / pyjamas) then pop on over to Snugbags or visit them over on the lovely Kim will be sure to help you out and you can sleep well knowing your little one is warm, dry and super snuggly all year round!
