Relax! I’m Cosy. {Review & Giveaway}

April 26, 2017 by lydiaritchie 14 Comments

relax-im-cosy

Would you believe it if I told you that up until probably six weeks ago I had never used a sleeping bag for either Sebastian and Isabelle. I couldn’t really even tell you the reason why (or why not) to  be honest. Sebastian went from being wrapped as a newborn to rocking a Love to Dream swaddle and then a sleep suit / sack / onesie type thing. And Isabelle has gone from her Snugpod to a onesie. I guess one of the main reasons would be that our home is a sun trap and the kids rooms are super cosy. That being said both Sebastian and Isabelle are wrigglers, Sebastian as I recall didn’t really give that up until he was around two and in a bed. It is NOT uncommon for me to go into their room and find them upside down, back to front or even across the middle width wise :-S

So… when I was approached by the lovely team at The Sleep Store about trialing and reviewing one of their ‘Woolbabe’ sleeping bags to be honest I was skeptical with how it would actually go and how Isabelle would actually take to being in one. After much deliberation (it’s serious business choosing a sleeping bag) I decided on the front zip 3-seasons sleeping bag in Dusk. As Isabelle is was 14 months at the time of choosing, I went for size 3 – 24 months, she is average height so I imagine (hope) to get lots of use out of it yet.

A few things to consider..

  • Front or Side Zip – as we are first time sleeping bag users I went for the front zip. Isabelle can be a wee bit of a wriggler, plus she is at the stand up and say hello stage so I liked the fact that there were NO domes on the shoulders to pop open. An advantage of the Side Zip is that it opens flat so perfect for nighttime nappy changes (but we are past that stage).
  • Weight – as I said above I choose to go with the 3-seasons weight, this weight can be used from 18 to 20 degrees, right up to 30 degrees. It is a lovely light weight merino / cotton blend that is gorgeously soft and snuggly for your little one to sleep in. The combination of breathable merino wool and organic cotton offers the best of both worlds making it super light, odor resistant and naturally temperature regulating so a good night sleep can be had by all. The Duvet weight can be used from 14 to 16 degrees up to 22 degrees. It’s quilted wool filling make it one of the warmest and snugglest, the weight of the filling also means less wriggling for lots of children (maybe I should have gotten this one instead too).
  • Size – with sizes starting from 0 to 6 months right up to 3 to 6 years there is something to everyone, not really something to consider just an added bonus.

As a Mum I love that these sleeping bags are easy to care for, they actually don’t need washing very often, daily airing drastically reduces how often you need to wash it (and lets be honest, as Mums we can all do with a bit less washing). As I said previously, initially I was skeptical about how Isabelle would take to using a sleeping bag as we previously hadn’t used one, however I was pleasantly surprised. She took to it really well, I love knowing she is constantly warm and snuggly, there is no middle of the night mad dashes to check how hot or cold she might be. I am also really glad we went with the 3-seasons weight being sleeping bag newbies, it is a great all round sleeping bag. Big thumbs up from this Mumma and by the look on her face.. a big thumbs up from Miss Isabelle!

    I’d love a duvet weight side zip, 3-24 month. We had the 3 seasons one for our first daughter and I loved it! But now we live in Dunedin & id love a warmer bag for our new little girl (for when she’s a little bit older). They really are awesome!

    I would so love a 3-24 month pebble duvet weight for my 2 month old!!! I’m a first time mum &we live in an old un-insulated house so I’m worried that my little one won’t be warm enough when we get to winter so a woolbabe sleeping bag would be really awesome to keep him cosy and give me peace of mind too!!
