As a Mum of an active (read that as ‘always on the go, only stopping to sleep’) toddler I am always on the look out for snacks. In particular healthy, lightweight, travel-friendly and convenient snacks. I like to keep a small supply in my bag for those times when you are out and about for longer than imagined planned, or which also happens with a very active toddler when lots of energy has been expelled and a snack is in need.. NOW!
So when the lovely ladies at Kiwi Mummy Blogs contacted me about Sebastian taste testing some goodies from the team at Watties you can imagine I was he was up for the challenge. Ha, anyone who knows my boy will know that eating and food is no challenge 🙂 I was excited to see items from both the Watties Little Kids – specialising in ‘ready-to-go’ meals and the Heinz Little Kids range – specialising in ‘on-the-go’ snacks.
Looking at the packaging of the Heinz Little Kids range I was immediately drawn to what is NOT in these products – preservatives, artificial colours and artificial flavours. Products like their ‘brekky to go’ is naturally sweetened with apple juice; the ‘wholegrain cereal bars’ contain just that wholegrains; their ‘fruit and vege shredz’ are 99%fruit and veg and their ‘mini corncakes’ contain multigrain. Some BIG ticks happening in my books and that is just after reading the packets.
Similarly with the Watties Little Kids range I was immediately drawn to what is NOT in their meals – artificial colours, artificial flavours and preservatives. The ‘savoury rice and beef’ is even gluten, milk and egg free. Both of the meals we Sebastian got to try were a ‘source of iron’ and ‘low in salt’ – some more BIG ticks from me. I like how handy these are too, throw a tin in your bag and you good to go with dinner when your out, just heat and eat.
So aside from the packaging and what was on the outside what did we think of the actual products..? We Sebastian loved them all. His favourite would probably have to be the ‘Shredz’ which he delicately ate one by one (great for fine motor skills) then kept asking for more? more? more? In saying that all the snacks were a HUGE hit. They are the perfect portion size for him, they taste yummy, are healthy and as far as I’m (Mummy) is concerned they tick all the boxes as above (healthy, lightweight, travel-friendly and convenient). I will definitely be stocking up when I hit the grocery store again.
Another little treat in amongst the delivery was a book ‘Baby Food and Beyond’ filled with lots of yummy recipes, meal and snack ideas from (you guessed) baby and beyond. The perfect little ‘Mummy’s helper’ for days when you are stuck on what to give your little one or when you feel like you want to ‘change it up’. Lots of these recipes and ideas can also be found on the ‘For Baby’ website, why not pop on over and have a look. Who knows.. you may even find inspiration for tonight’s dinner (if you haven’t got it planned already)!
A HUGE Thank You goes to Watties for sending us this special delivery and letting us Sebastian be a part of your taste testing crew, we will definitely be back for more come grocery day.
