‘Birthday boy Peter is enjoying roaring, snarling, snatching and stomping his way through the day when he discovers he has turned into the Birthday Monster! He has big googly eyes, a prickly tail and a snarly snout. How is he going to turn back into the Birthday Boy before it’s too late and he becomes a monster forever?’
It’s no secret that I love books and reading. Whether its a book for myself or a chance to share one of my greatest hobbies with Sebastian, then I am there. We love books and during the week spend a lot of time reading stories, looking at the pictures and talking them. So when given the opportunity to add to Sebastian’s ever growing book collection, I couldn’t say ‘No’.
I loved reading ‘The Birthday Monster’ to Sebastian (although the story is a bit beyond him at this stage) he did however love looking at the pictures, pointing out things like the googly eyes and pictures of Peter as a little boy. It will be a great book to continue to read to him over the years and talk about the story, as he understands it.
The illustrations along with monster type writing throughout really adds to the essence of the book and although Peter is a monster he comes across as a friendly funny looking monster not scary one (a plus for bedtime stories in my books).
The Birthday Monster is a fun and energetic picture book that will no doubt be enjoyed by grandparents, parents and children. It would make a great addition to any bookshelf.
