“The duck pond is dry and Bryan wants to know why. It turns out the drain to the pond is blocked, but what can help shift it? It’s time to get the big crane out for some heavy lifting. Meanwhile Oscar finds himself is a very strange predicament…”
Recently some special mail arrived from the lovely Kiwi Mummy Blogs team. A fabulous new childrens book – ‘Ducks to Water’ by New Zealand author Brett Avison. It was a wet and miserable day so Sebastian and I immediately snuggled up on the couch under a blanket to read this new book. The book tells the story of Bryan, his dog Oscar and the adventure they have helping to unblock the drain for a family of ducks on his Mum’s farm. Sebastian was captivated the whole way through… (says a lot when you have a very active nearly 2 year old)
‘Duck to Water’ is written in rhyme the whole way through and depicts the quintessential ‘can do’ kiwi attitude. It is filled with bight, colourful illustrations by the talented Janine Dawson, I particularly liked the facial expressions on the people and animals.
Sebastian loved this book for multiple reasons… the animals – he enjoyed going through the book making appropriate noises; and the crane – we have a real little boy on our hands and any book with trucks, cranes and digers goes down a real treat. He also loved the surprise pop up ending.
This is a great book for toddlers through to primary school aged children. It is a hardback with paper pages, perfect for younger children when supervised. The rhyming throughout means both younger and older children will enjoy reading it. It is a great addition to Sebastian’s ever growing library and I am already on the look out for the other three books ( A Bigger Digger / Stuck in Muck and Pigs Might Fly) by Brett Avison.
Happy Reading Everyone!
