Today’s post is a hard one to write and has been weighing heavily on my mind for some time now.
As you may or may not know, one key aspect of being a blogger is keeping up with the ever changing face of social media and joining in with the latest and greatest to promote yourself (your brand). SNAPCHAT started in 2011 (which seems like forever ago) and has since taken on a very large life of it’s own. I joined up very late to the party (we are talking May this year), but to be honest with you… I don’t get it. I mean I understand how it works and all that but I am just not sure how it really benefits me.
I get that it’s all about taking photos and videos (and those cute little faces that Sebastian loves so much). I understand that it gives our followers a real sense of who you are because – no editing; it shows real life in real time. The issue I have is I don’t have the “real time” to show my “real life”, and whilst I know I can just push record while the kids are playing or while I’m opening some mail and / or cooking I actually don’t want to.
I want to save some things, some moments for me and my kids. I want to push the kids on the swing, watch them squeal with delight and I want to enjoy that moment just for me. I want to soak up the baby goodness without having to think and worry about posting on SNAPCHAT. Plus, I never have time to follow anyone. How do you do it? I always seem to find there are mouths to feed and washing to be done. I take my hat off to you all who have SNAPCHAT and regularly use it, because it is something I can just NOT get my head around doing. In fact it is doing my head in.
So ***shock horror*** it’s with a heavy heart I have decided to break up with SNAPCHAT. We have had a love – hate relationship the whole time. I mean seriously have you seen how often I actually post on there (???) The most was last weekend. I do love that I can send quick clips of the kids to family and friends, so will be keeping it for that purpose. But for regular day to day postings I am saying farewell (I cant even really call it a fond one because we didn’t get to know each other well enough anyway).
For those of you who want to follow along with Always Made With Love you can still catch us over on and plus you can sign up to our monthly Newsletter to get all the latest happenings on the blog delivered straight to your inbox!
Note: to those of you who actively use SNAPCHAT on regular basis, good on you! It’s just not for me 🙁

Snap! I feel the same way…so you are not the only one. I take my hat off to anyone who l uses snapchat regularly, especially when they video themselves, I am just not one of those people. I take photos of my home and maybe a few cute vids of the kids playing but that’s about it…keeping up with Facebook and Instagram is enough for me! Loved this post Lydia x thanks for sharing .

Thanks for stopping by Charlene – your support means a lot xx

Good for you, use whatever platform(s) that fits best with you. Out of everything that is available, I still prefer reading actual blogs anyway. By the way, I like your animated home page images, I haven’t worked out how to do that. It amazes me how others can seem to manage more than a couple of social media platforms effectively. I’ve never used Snapchat or Twitter – it took me a very long time to even link my own blog to Facebook! I’m such a dinosaur.

Thanks for stopping by Leanne and for your kind words. They were just what I needed to hear since I was feeling so nervous about posting this 🙂 xx

I am also considering breaking up with snap chat. Especially now since Instagram also has the ‘stories’ feature. It will be one less social media app I feel obliged to give time to.
lydiaritchie says
Agreed, I just found it so time consuming. Thanks for stopping by xx

I say good on you Lydia! Just because a social platform exists doesn’t mean you have to use it…or love it. You do you girl!
lydiaritchie says
Thanks Kate – funnily enough this post has created more support than I thought it would, clearly I am not the only one feeling this way 🙂

I’m not really THAT into it, I think each platform is whatever we make of it. I like the funny gilters tho 🙂 hahaha
lydiaritchie says
Yes, I like the glitters too and Sebastian LOVES making puppy dog faces 😉 xx

Ha Ha Ha… you think you are late to the party, I hve just signed up… BUT I think I might just give Instagram story ago instead! I literally, foolishly signed up to snapchat 1 week before Insta launched story
lydiaritchie says
Hehe… your comment made me go and look up what Instagram story was 🙂 xx

I signed up to it back in the day… hated it, deleted it. Then signed up to it weeks ago with my sister just to have a look at it again as she’s an avid used. Love the funny filters you can put over you face and that’s it. Not into it and certainly would no use it for blogging. I’ve even stopped using instragram to promote my blog, just doesn’t seem to fit in and mesh well. May give it a try again in the future but for now sticking to Pinterest and Facebook and that’s it. Too much to handle! haha
