…And Schumi Makes Five

November 14, 2014 by lydiaritchie 16 Comments

and Schumi makes 5Earlier this week I shared with you our ‘Mini Family Break‘ and our real reason behind having one (not that we needed a reason, of course) was to bring home our fur baby Schumi.

We are officially a family of 5 (three humans and two fur babies).

Schumi is a labradoodle and is the cutest bundle of chocolate brown fluff you have ever seen. He is named after legendary Formula One Racing Car driver Michael Schumacher (Steve is a HUGE fan) and brings the total number of boys in household to four – I am seriously outnumbered here, anyone wants to donate a pet goldfish (female applicants only – heheh..) Not only that all four boys share the same first initial ‘S’ – totally not intentional.

Schumi

He has fitted into our home, lives and hearts just beautifully and only a week in, it feels like he has always been here. Sebastian loves him and they follow each other around all the time. Toys in our household are multi purpose – baby, cat or puppy, it matters not as long as we are all playing nicely. That being said some of the smaller and soft toys are now out of bounds to Schumi, he is getting a bit rough.

Schumi Storm is slowly coming around to the idea of not being the only fur child and is getting braver and braver as the days go on. Today he even made return trips through the same room as Schumi, it probably helped that Schumi was asleep and didn’t run up to him to play though.

Schumi and Benson

A month ago, my parents also adopted a fur baby labradoodle from the same litter. They named him Benson. Now, I can see some of you thinking ‘a month go” but you have only just got Schumi now? Yes, we were only allowed to pick Schumi up now as he is quite a lot smaller than the rest of his brothers and sisters, so the breeder wanted to keep him for a bit longer. As you can see, Schumi is about half the size of Benson, however, what he lacks for in size he makes up for in personality and spunk. It is lovely seeing them both together as we were a bit unsure how they would react after being apart for over a month.

Brothers - schumi and benson

Now it hasn’t been all fun and games, it is seriously hard work with a baby (yip, still calling him my baby) and a puppy – there are early mornings, little accidents, a few bumps and scraps from an over zealous puppy to a sometimes tired teething baby, some toy sharing technicalities and puppy water is so much fun to wash things (toys, socks you name it, we want to wash it.. our bottle even).

Schumi

All in all after only one week I think we are doing great, it has been full on but Schumi is settling in well and makes a lovely edition to our family.

Now, all you proud puppy owners out there… Advice? Tips? Tricks?

They are both gorgeous! I’m mum to three young adult humans and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels – one is nearly 15 yrs of age and the other is a 2 yr old – so wasn’t long ago we went through the puppy stage. Having a crate and crate training was my saviour 🙂 x

Aw, thank you! Gosh you must have had a busy household. We are also crate training and it is all going well, I think (being a first time puppy owner and all) xx

We are hoping to add a fur baby to our family next year… that would take us to 5 too. Schumi is so so cute and I love he has his Brother Benson still in his life as well. Baby and puppy get to grow up best mates. So lovely. Jx

Thanks Jess. It is so lovely seeing Benson and Schumi together. Agreed, we always wanted to puppy and baby to grow up together that’s why we ‘planned’ it the way we did. Bet you cant wait to get your little one – so exciting! xx
